I'm now in my 15th year of business and I couldn't be happier. There aren't many people who can honestly say that they love their job. The feeling of job satisfaction is amazing. When a client comes to collect the cake, and you can see how thrilled they are, it makes me so happy. We've even had tears from some..happy tears though I promise!
I've always had a passion for baking. It was hard not to. As a child I always remember the aroma of cakes and pastries coming from the kitchen at both my home and my nans.
My mum always made our birthday cakes and it amazed me to see what creation she would come up with next. I guess this is what sparked the interest in me.
I spent 4 years in the University of Wales in Cardiff, gaining my HND in Hotel and Catering Management, so I naturally followed a career in catering, working mainly in contract catering but also covering bar work, waitressing and even chef work, finally being promoted to Deputy Catering Manager at the National Assembly For Wales in Cathays Park, Cardiff.
In 1998 I started making cakes for family and friends as a hobby, but I soon got hooked after joining a night class one evening a week to learn basic sugarcraft. My 1st wedding cake was made for my cousin in the same year and I was so proud of this achievement.
After having my 2nd child in 2005 and with a great deal of support from my amazing husband and family, I decided to leave my career and set up my own business from home, doing what I love the most.
I absolutely love creating new designs and turning people's ideas into cake. The options are endless. My daughter even sketches her own designs now too and to see her face when the design comes to life is fantastic.
My favourite part of cake decorating is hand painting straight onto the cake, or using my airbrush. I have a massive love of the dark side too though. I love making horror themed cakes, and anything to do with skulls and skeletons and I have to admit to being a bit of a geek, which I didn’t realise how much of one I was, until I went to comicon a couple of years ago. 🤓
Anyway enough about me, I could talk a glass eye to sleep....my nickname was always Chatty Cathy in school....I can't understand why?
Thanks for reading
Love
